My Body Talks Class Series is inspired by life long learning and personal experiences that have shaped and changed my life and work.  Several years ago, I experienced my first energy session.  At one point in the session, I felt a low, dark, moaning deep inside my head.  I saw the shadowy image of a grieving woman, tucked deep within my brain, uttering these sorrowful cries.  While this felt familiar, I also had a sudden, profound, realization that this woman was not me.  We had a brief interaction where I expressed sympathy and understanding, but that it was also time for her to go.  She acknowledged this and appeared to pass through a portal, leaving the space within my head.  I felt an instant relief, as if a heavy cloak had been lifted from my body and mind.  I had experienced severe depression and hospitalizations as a young adult, and while that had improved significantly with counseling, I continued to carry a kind of constant, low-level, sadness.  I just figured that was who I was.  That day, though, everything shifted, and that low-level sadness was gone.  Just like that.  And for the first time, I started to realize that not everything I felt was mine.

A year or so later, I took my first Craniosacral Therapy class.  During these classes there are lots of technique practices as we all learn the foundational treatment skills.  One of the instructors would offer brief feedback to me during the practice sessions, but it wasn’t about the CST techniques.  “You’re leaving a part of yourself at the table,” and “don’t take it on” were the typical comments.  This wasn’t in our class book, but a part of me knew it was important.  We were talking during a class break, and she abruptly stopped the conversation mid-sentence and said, “you’re leaving your body.”  I could instantly feel what she meant.  I felt an energy slowly creeping upwards out of my physical body, almost like it was trying to sneak unnoticed up an open staircase.  I quickly pulled the energy back down into my physical body, but it felt uncomfortable and like I was working really hard to hold it there.  The instructor resumed conversation for a few seconds before again stopping mid-sentence, “you’re doing it again,” she said.

And I felt it.  And suddenly I couldn’t unfeel it or unsee it.  And I still can’t.  And I am very grateful for all of the experiences that have opened because of it.

This energy, and the way it moves, is a form of intelligent communication.  Each of us is in constant communication with ourselves, others, and our environment.  Our gut, heart, and brain are in constant communication with each other, with each sharing different information.  The energetic and magnetic fields created by our bodies can be measured outside of the body and provide insight to our physical health.  We ALL feel and sense this in some fashion.  Anytime we reference the “vibes,” talk about a “gut instinct,” or a “heart’s desire,” we are tuning into these energies.

My Body Talk Class Series is an interactive, fun way to intentionally communicate with these energies.  We’ll practice feeling into the energy of our physical body, subtle body (field around us), and then notice how these shift and change when we interact with others and our environment.  As we know and understand ourselves more fully, it allows for a deep self-compassion.  We see ourselves and others in a more complete light.
